William Nathaniel Robertson Scholarship 2025

About

The William Nathaniel Robertson Scholarship, established in 1984 through a $10,000 bequest by Clara Joan Roe in memory of her father, William Nathaniel Robertson, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Queensland (UQ) from 1926 to 1938, supports one student undertaking a research project as part of the MBBS/MD-MPhil or MBBS/MD-PhD programs at UQ’s Faculty of Medicine. This merit-based scholarship, valued at AUD $5,000 for the 2025-2026 academic year, aims to foster academic excellence and innovative medical research. UQ, ranked among the top 50 universities globally (QS World University Rankings 2025, #43), is Australia’s fifth oldest university and a leader in medical education and research. The scholarship supports students in the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program combined with a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), enhancing their ability to contribute to advancements in health and medicine. The award is limited to the annual income from the endowment fund and is disbursed to one recipient annually.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the William Nathaniel Robertson Scholarship 2025-2026, applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled at the University of Queensland in one of the following programs:

    • MBBS/MD-MPhil (Doctor of Medicine combined with Master of Philosophy).

    • MBBS/MD-PhD (Doctor of Medicine combined with Doctor of Philosophy).

  • Be undertaking a research project as part of the requirements for the MBBS/MD-MPhil or MBBS/MD-PhD programs.

  • Be open to all nationalities (domestic and international students).

  • Propose a high-quality research project relevant to health and medicine, as assessed by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.

  • Exclusions:

    • Not available for standalone MBBS/MD, MPhil, PhD, or other UQ programs outside the specified dual degrees.

    • Applicants receiving a living allowance or scholarship exceeding 75% of the Research Training Program (RTP) stipend rate (AUD $36,400 in 2025) for the same purpose may be ineligible.

Benefits

    • Value: AUD $5,000, limited to the annual income from the endowment fund.

    • Disbursement: Paid as a one-time payment to the recipient’s nominated Australian bank account after the academic census date in the first semester of 2025 (typically late August/September for Semester 2 or March 2026 for Semester 1).

    • Duration: Non-renewable, supporting the research project for one academic year.

    • Additional Benefits:

      • Recognition as a William Nathaniel Robertson Scholarship recipient, enhancing professional credentials in medical research.

      • Access to UQ’s Faculty of Medicine resources, including research facilities and mentorship from leading academics.
