Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Legacy Award 2025, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Be an entering undergraduate student enrolled full-time (12–18 credits per semester) in a degree-bearing program at NYIT’s Long Island, New York City, or online campuses for Fall 2025 or Spring 2026.
Be a child or legal dependent of an NYIT alumnus/alumna who earned a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree from a degree-bearing program at NYIT.
Meet NYIT’s academic admission requirements for the chosen undergraduate program (e.g., minimum high school GPA of 2.5 or standardized test scores, if required, though NYIT is test-optional for 2025).
Maintain continuous full-time enrollment and Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 to renew the award each semester.
Exclusions:
Not available to part-time students (fewer than 12 credits per semester), graduate students, or non-degree program students.
Not applicable to students at NYIT’s Vancouver, Arkansas, or other non-qualifying campuses.
Students receiving other NYIT scholarships (e.g., Presidential Scholarship, Theodore K. Steele Memorial Scholarship) or external aid may qualify, but the Legacy Award is applied independently as a tuition-only award.
Award Amount
The scholarship provides USD $1,000 per academic year, disbursed as $500 per semester (Fall and Spring).
The award is applied directly as a tuition fee reduction and is not disbursed as a cash payment.
Renewable for up to four years (eight semesters) of continuous full-time undergraduate enrollment, provided the student maintains SAP and full-time status.
Note: The award covers tuition only and does not apply to college fees, room and board, books, or living expenses. It is not available for Summer sessions.
Application Process
To apply for the Legacy Award 2025, follow these steps:
Apply to NYIT: Submit an application for a full-time undergraduate program for Fall 2025 or Spring 2026 via the NYIT admissions portal (www.nyit.edu/admissions) or the Common Application.
Secure Admission: Receive an offer of admission to a full-time undergraduate degree-bearing program at NYIT’s Long Island, New York City, or online campus.
Obtain Legacy Award Form: Download the Legacy Award Application form from the NYIT Office of Alumni Relations website or request it via email (alumni@nyit.edu).
Submit Application: Complete the form and email it to alumni@nyit.edu, along with confirmation of the parent’s or legal guardian’s NYIT alumni status (e.g., alumni ID, degree verification details, or a copy of the degree certificate).
Verify Alumni Status: The Office of Alumni Relations will verify the parent’s or legal guardian’s degree completion. Applicants may need to provide additional details (e.g., graduation year, program) to facilitate verification.
Accept Offer and Enroll: Accept the admission offer and enroll as a full-time student to activate the scholarship.
Renewal: The award is automatically renewed each semester for eligible students, provided they maintain full-time enrollment and SAP. No annual reapplication is required, but students should confirm enrollment status each semester.
Note: Submit the Legacy Award Application as early as possible after admission to align with tuition payment deadlines. Contact the Office of Alumni Relations for assistance with form submission or alumni verification.

Deadlines
Application for Admission:
Early Action I: November 15, 2024 (Fall 2025; decision by December 15, 2024).
Early Action II: December 1, 2024 (Fall 2025; decision by January 15, 2025).
Regular Decision: Rolling admissions, with February 1, 2025, recommended for priority consideration.
Spring 2026: December 1, 2025.
Legacy Award Application Deadlines:
Fall 2025: July 15, 2025 (recommended to ensure processing before the semester starts).
Spring 2026: December 15, 2025.
FAFSA Submission: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1, 2025, to maximize eligibility for supplementary federal and state aid (FAFSA code: 002782).
Enrollment Deadlines: Enroll by the start of Fall 2025 (late August 2025) or Spring 2026 (mid-January 2026) semesters.
